It is estimated that approximately 2 million children run away from home each year. Most of them eventually reunite with their families but some are never seen again--meeting their fate on the streets of a cruel, unforgiving world.

This is precisely the fate feared to have happened to sixteen-year-old Shantelle Hudson. What began one brisk November morning as a simple runaway investigation, turned into the LCSO's oldest unsolved missing persons case.

Shantelle with a friend
A simple disagreement between mother and daughter is said to have precipitated Shantelle Hudson running away. No one has ever seen or heard from Shantelle ever again.

Shantelle is alleged to have been last seen by a relative leaving her residence at 0730 hours on the morning of November 12, 1988.
Shantelle with friends
There were two claimed sightings of Shantelle in the Dayton area up to a month after her disappearance but neither of these have ever been confirmed or corroborated, and may likely be misidentifications.

Over three decades have passed since Shantelle was last seen and she would have turned 48 years old this year.

Shantelle's case is featured on the Charley Project, Websleuths, NamUs, MissingIn, The Doe Network and KRNV Reno News 4.
